Lesson for Sunday May 24, 2008

Series: What Happens in Corinth Stays in Corinth
Title: Immorality in the Church
Text: 1 Corinthians 5

Please read the whole chapter this week then answer the following questions:

what was the main issue Paul was addressing here?
who is Paul talking about in this passage? the saved or the lost?
Is there ever a proper time for church discipline?
If there is, how should it be handled?
what is the purpose of church discipline?
Should private sin be made public in the church?
Should public common knowledge sin be publicly handled?

This is subject is one that has been debated, talked about, and even abused on both sides. This week we will see what the WORD says. Not my opinion or my interpretation but specifically how the Bible addresses this subject.

I hope you all have a stellar week! I Love you and am Praying for you!!!

Lesson for Sunday May 10, 2009

Series: What Happens in Corinth Stays in Corinth
Lesson: Marks of a Spiritual Father
Text: 1 Corinthians 4:14-21

This Sunday is Mothers day and it also right in the middle of our Missions Emphasis week. We are going to continue to the next passage and the next verses. Paul in this epistle has used many different roles to describe the spiritual leader:
3:5 – a servant
3:6 – a farmer
3:10 – builder
4:1 – slave, and a steward
Now he changes gears a little and refers as himself as "father" and the Corinthians as "sons" or "children".
What is the difference between "brethren" and "sons"? Why would he change the references towards them in this passage?
He gives some characteristics of a "spiritual father". Can you identify them?

As a spiritual leader or father there is a great responsibility that is required. Why?
What can we do as leaders and fathers to make sure we are living up to what God has called us to?
What should the balance between law and grace be? Love and Discipline?
Is there a time where I am responsible to warn other Christians?
If there is When? Why? How?
